synopsis
A dark quiet basement and an ordinary sunny day behind its windows. A young woman enters the space and looks for her grandmother. The grandmother does not reply and keeps hiding. What is she doing down there? Is she hiding something? And is everything really the way it seemed at the very beginning?
director’s note
Rose in the Dark has always been intended as a short genre film. I wanted to create a depressing atmosphere of a psychological thriller which would pass strong negative feelings such as frustration, hopelessness, sense of injustice onto the viewer. I was inspired by the film location itself and my choice of the subject – domestic violence against elderly people. However I believe the film also works on a broader basis – as a short study of a psychopath or evil without any clear motivation.
